Congress Palace, officially known as the Congress and Exhibition Palace of Leon, is one of the most ambitious architectural projects in the city whose objective is to host a variety of large-capacity events, including exhibitions, congresses, concerts musicals and fairs.
The palace has a 20,000-square-meter exhibition area divided into an above-ground area and a below-ground area, which is slightly larger.
It is located on land that housed the now-defunct Santa Elvira Sugar Factory, a gigantic plot of more than 75,000 square meters where the three buildings that form the architectural complex—the Exhibition Palace, the Palacín and the Congress Palace—are located.
This huge venue for exhibitions and traveling events is delimited by Gómez de Salazar Street, Palencia Avenue and Doctor Fleming Avenue, next to the bus station and the high-speed train station. Thus, it is centrally located and perfectly designed to attract large crowds.
Its design was carried out by the famous architect Dominique Perrault, who sought to make Congress Palace one of the best convention and event centres in Spain.
