The Festival of the Pillar is one of the most popular and important celebrations in Zaragoza.
The big day is celebrated on October 12, the day of Our Lady of the Pillar and the national holiday of Spain and Hispanic heritage.
This conjunction of dates makes the celebration an event that unites both religious fervour and liveliness.
The festivities span 10 days during which endless activities and events of enormous heritage importance take place. They are immensely popular among citizens of Zaragoza and especially among tourists, who crowd the streets in the middle of a spectacular celebration that brings together up to four million attendees.
Among the events that take place during this joyful festival are the Solemn Mass of Infants, the glamorous Offering of Flowers, a Pontifical Mass, the Offering of Fruits, the world-famous Crystal Rosary Parade, the huge comparsa with big heads and giants, and the announcement of the Proclamation.
Due to the immense popularity of this festival, it was declared a Festival of National and International Tourist Interest.
