The city of Zaragoza has a cold semi-arid climate characteristic of the Ebro depression. It has mild and slightly cold winters and very hot summers. In fact, it is one of the hottest provinces in northern Spain.

The coldest winter months are usually December and January, when there can be an average of 23 frosts and the temperature can be an average of 10ºC. It is common for the temperature to drop to 2ºC, though due to thermal inversion, the temperature can feel colder than it actually is. Due to its aridity, the city experiences only a couple of days of snow per year on average.

Characteristic of arid climates, summers in Zaragoza are usually very muggy, with temperatures that easily exceed 35ºC and that, on many occasions, rise to 40ºC or more, with July and August being the hottest months. Zaragoza is a very dry city, with just over 300mm of rain per year and a minuscule average of less than 50 rainy days per year.

Due to its low altitude, Zaragoza receives an average wind of almost 20 kilometres per hour. This is divided into intense winds that blow to the northwest, called “cierzo”, which are characterized by dryness and a mild temperature, though with a cold or extremely cold thermal sensation. The wind that blows from the Mediterranean is characterized by being muggy and humid. It blows from the southeast, with a hot thermal sensation in summer, but favours the formation of fog in winter and blows more intensely than the “cierzo”.
