Santander's climate is oceanic, mild and peaceful.

It has a thermal oscillation that usually fluctuates low until reaching 10ºC – that is, there are no scorching summers or blistering cold winters, which rarely reach 0ºC. In fact, there is usually only one day of snow a year, which is very different from the extreme climates of other Spanish cities or regions.

This is one of the main characteristics of the oceanic climates present in the north of Spain, thanks to the thermoregulatory effect of the sea. Temperatures usually reach a maximum of 24ºC in summer and a little more than 5ºC in winter. August is the hottest month and February the coldest.

Something that characterizes Santander is that it is one of the rainiest cities in the Iberian Peninsula, with an average of abundant rainfall during all months. The rainiest seasons are spring and autumn. Due to this high level of rainfall, the humidity is very high, easily reaching up to 90% on many occasions.

Another characteristic of the Santander climate is the intense strong wind coming from the south that occurs during the autumn and winter months. This causes low humidity and an increase in temperature. Called the Föhn effect, this occurs due to the proximity of the Cantabrian Mountains, which act as a mountain barrier. The intense wind is one of the factors responsible for the pleasant and mild climate of the city.
