Holy Week in Salamanca was declared, in 2003, a Festival of International Tourist Interest.
It is one of the most deeply-rooted celebrations in the city, with around 10,000 brothers who take to the streets carrying steps loaded with beauty and spirituality.
It constitutes the main religious event of the city. Holy Week in Salamanca has 18 brotherhoods, confraternities and congregations, with 24 processions.
The oldest are the Procession of the Holy Burial (1615), the Act of Descent (1615) and the Procession of the Encounter (1616).
