El Capricho Park is a 14-hectare historical-artistic garden in the Alameda de Osuna neighbourhood of the Barajas district, northeast of Madrid. It is a beautiful triangular-shaped garden.
It was built under the patronage of the Duchess of Osuna, who financed the project and cared for it until her death. In 1900, the park successively passed into the hands of heirs until the Madrid City Council acquired it in 1974 and subjected it to extensive restoration.
In addition to its natural beauty, El Capricho Park has a lavish palace. In 2014, a new restoration recovered its central rotunda, one of its most valuable architectural and artistic pieces. A replica of the statue of Venus was received; this was the work of the sculptor Juan Adán and was donated by the private collector Alicia Koplowitz. In addition, a bust of the Duchess of Osuna and other marble statues were recovered.
The park’s natural wealth and immense collection of artwork make it one of Spain’s most notable historical-artistic gardens in private hands.
It should be noted that El Capricho Park has the only Romantic garden in Madrid. Due to its declaration as a historical-artistic garden, it has a limited capacity and cannot be used recreationally. Therefore, balls, bicycles, scooters, food and drinks of any kind are not allowed.
