Casa de Campo (Madrid)

Casa de Campo (Madrid)

"Casa de Campo" is the largest public park in Madrid. It is located in the Moncloa-Aravaca district and covers an impressive 1,720 hectares.

Casa de Campo is an immense natural area double the size of the Forest of Chapultepec in Mexico and the Forest of Bologna in Paris, five times the size of Central Park in New York and almost seven times the size of Hyde Park in London.

This gigantic recreational park was once the private hunting preserve of royalty. Its name comes from a Renaissance house that was located in its immense area. After the proclamation of the Second Republic in 1931, this land was transferred to the population of Madrid for recreational use.

The immense park houses a series of facilities, including a zoo, an amusement park, the Madrid Arena Multipurpose Pavilion and a cable car connecting Casa de Campo with Oeste Park on the opposite bank of the Manzanares river. In addition to a large number of facilities, Casa de Campo has a wealth of flora and fauna, a large number of springs and lakes, and a great immensity of forest.

Given its enormity and immense heritage, natural and recreational value, Casa de Campo received the declaration of Asset of Cultural Interest of the Community of Madrid and was catalogued as a Historical Park. It is part of an exclusive group along with El Retiro Park, Fuente del Berro Park, El Capricho Park and Los Molinos Park, among others.
