Caceres is the most populated city in Extremadura. It was founded in 34 BC, which means it has an incredible wealth of heritage and has become an important tourist attraction, with many highly popular thematic routes.
The Religious Route offers an interesting tour of many ancient temples, such as the Hermitage of Peace, the Co-Cathedral of St. Mary, the Church of St. Matthew, the Hermitage of the Holy Spirit and the Church of St. Francis Xavier, among many others.
Other routes, such as the Route from Ancient Times to the Vanguard, combine historical buildings with the art present in the city, represented in its many works of open-air art and museums.
The Extramural Route focuses on monuments and buildings created between the 16th and 20th centuries in the outer areas of the medieval walls of Caceres. Here, one can admire emblematic monuments such as the Provincial Court, San Juan Square, the Malaga House and the Paseo de Cánovas.
One of the most popular and original routes is the Cinematographic Route, which offers a tour of places that – due to their monumentality and spectacular nature – have served as locations and settings for series and movies.
Among many other routes of great tourist and educational attraction are the interesting Route of Artisan Beers, the Almohad Route during the Muslim occupation of the 12th century, the Route of the Christian Towers, the Roman Route and the spectacular Route of the Old Jewish Quarter.
