Of all the festivities and celebrations in Caceres, without a doubt, Holy Week is the most important. It is celebrated from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. Among the most notable aspects are the significant colour of its activities and the enormous number of tourists it receives every year.
The main attractions of Holy Week are its spectacular and lively processions, in which each brotherhood carries out a ceremony of ancient tradition and significant cultural appeal.
The processions take place along the streets of Caceres, carrying on their shoulders the imposing representations of Christ and the saints, all accompanied by lavish groups in which the brothers are distinguished by their elaborate attire.
Among the most important brotherhoods are the Brotherhood of the Holy Spirit, the Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus Nazareno, the Brotherhood of Solitude, the Brotherhood of Vera Cruz and many others. One of the best processions is that of the Black Christ, which is celebrated on Holy Thursday and circulates throughout the old area of Caceres, attracting a huge number of tourists every year.
In 2011, the festival was declared of International Tourist Interest.
