Festivals in Burgos

Festival of St. Peter and St. Paul

The Festival of St. Peter and St. Paul, with a great secular tradition, celebrated every June 29, is the most important celebration in the city of Burgos. It is popularly known as the “Sampedros”.

The festivities begin with the traditional “chupinazo”, a small rocket launched by the person who makes the proclamation that year. The festivities start immediately after and last for more than a week.

It is worth mentioning the dance of “gigantillos and gigantones”, as well as the lively parade in which the different brotherhoods of Burgos move throughout the city accompanied by lavish and colourful floats.

Among many other activities of enormous popularity are the day of the Absent people of Burgos, the fireworks of great colour and emotion, the different concerts by renowned international guest artists, the parades, the bullfighting fair and the many activities for children.

This festival has been declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest.
