The Military Historical Museum of Burgos is considered one of the best places to understand the contemporary history of Spain and the delicate and special role that the Armed Forces have had in recent years.
In fact, the headquarters of the museum, the Palace of the General Captaincy, is in itself a historical and important place because it was the headquarters of Franco's troops during the bloody Spanish Civil War in the 20th century. It was also the place where the war's end was proclaimed in 1939.
This palace was built after the demolition of the House of the Four Towers to house the headquarters of the Regional Command and the IV Military Region.
Its architectural design is structured into five areas through which the museum offers a close view of the different regiments that have existed at the Burgos base, as well as an interesting journey through its military history.
The Military Historical Museum has an interesting collection of scientific instruments, uniforms, medical equipment and transmissions. However, one of the greatest acquisitions of the museum is an authentic Enigma machine, used to decipher the messages of the Nazis during the Second World War. This machine was of incalculable importance for the Allies when it came to changing the course of the war and defeating Hitler.
In other areas of the museum, important military actions in which the military units of Burgos were involved are exhibited, as is a sensational collection of banners and military flags.
