The Ocean Race Museum, formerly the Volvo Ocean Race Museum, is an attractive and interesting sports museum dedicated to spreading the history and achievements of the popular sailing regatta known as the Ocean Race.
It has an extensive area of 1,300 square meters in what was the Old Oran Maritime Station within the Port of Alicante and has two areas. One is on the ground floor and is dedicated to the exhibition of articles and artifacts, as well as an extensive library. The other is on the first floor and has a multipurpose room oriented to workshops and a splendid restaurant-cafe, with a huge terrace and a phenomenal view of the entire coast.
One of the great attractions of this dynamic museum is its interactive style. Here, visitors can discover the marine world, the great navigators and the enormous oceanic mysteries and wonders through the disclosure of complex marine ecosystems and, of course, the regatta itself. There, one can discover the boats and the interesting technical aspects of their management.
The museum also offers a school program aimed at highlighting sustainability, values and secrets of regatta sailing among young people. In addition, it has functioned as an operations centre for the Ocean Race since its installation in 2010.
Part of the museum’s appeal is its spectacular collection, which includes a life-size sailing simulator and the original Brazilian racing boat that participated in the 2005-2006 regatta. It is located outside the museum on the entire main façade, where visitors can enter both the roof and interior areas.
