In front of the Paseo del Parrote, on the island of San Antón, is an old castle with the same name as the island. It is home to the Archaeological and Historical Museum of A Coruña. This fortification, built in the 16th century to defend the city, was ceded to the A Coruña City Council in the mid-20th century by the Ministry of the Army. It opened its doors to the public in 1968.
The museum exhibits a collection of objects divided into three sections. Heraldry and medieval art can be found in the access area and the parade ground. On the ground floor are pieces of archaeology. Finally, in another section on the ground floor and on the upper floor, the visitor can take a historical tour of several centuries.
Other wonders of visiting this site include enjoying the medieval architecture and the magnificent views of the sea, as well as being able to interact during your visit. On this site, one finds very valuable historical reproductions and reconstructions, such as an Iron Age ship, a ceramic mural representing different episodes of legends and the history of the province, and the reconstruction of the megalithic cist of Taraio and the petroglyphs.
Entering this wonderful site does not require much planning, as it is open every day and the entrance fee is affordable. Therefore, it is highly visited throughout the year.
