Of all the urban parks in Palma de Mallorca, Parc de la Mar is undoubtedly one of the most popular among residents and tourists due to its beauty, large size and many recreational areas.
Built and opened during the 1970s, with a design by the famous architects Ángel Morado and Pere Nicolau, this beautiful park has an area of 9 hectares and is located between the Levante highway and the wall, a short walk from the city cathedral.
After the construction of the train tunnel to the port of Palma de Mallorca, a large space of land reclaimed from the sea was left behind. There, the Promenade and the highway were built. This left another huge piece of land between both constructions, which motivated the City Council to devise an area specially designed for recreation, as well as a natural union between both structures.
As part of a modern and integrative design, the Parc de la Mar includes a huge saltwater lake with a fountain in the middle that bathes part of the wall and represents a symbolic element when the sea directly bordered said Wall.
A very large paved esplanade was built around the lake, with a park to the west full of grass and a beautiful tree line with a children's play area. It is an ideal recreational and resting place for families and children.
