Arab Baths (Palma de Mallorca)

If one had to choose a single emblematic monument of Palma de Mallorca that has generated genuine interest among locals and strangers, without a doubt the Arab Baths of the city would top the list. This site offers one of the most interesting legacies of the spectacular and rich Muslim architecture in Mallorca.

Of these magnificent baths, located in stately gardens in Can Pit, only the central room is preserved intact. At the time, it was intended for hot baths, with an adjacent room of a rectangular floor plan with a semicircular vault and thick walls.

To enter these bathrooms, one must go through a beautiful portal with a horseshoe-shaped arch that leads to a cubic room with a hallway on one side. There, one can see a semicircular arch roof made with a spectacular colonnade with arches of horseshoes protruding from a dome, made of skylights and bricks.

Interesting details create an idea of what the original layout of the bathroom was like. The ruins of steam and hot water pipes and chimneys have been found, as have those of a narrow hallway that led to a room serving as a changing room. Next, one entered the bathroom (a warm room) and, from there, a hammam or hot room.

It is a work of incredible artistic and heritage appeal that has generated enormous interest among tourists. Thus, it is a mandatory stop when one is visiting Palma de Mallorca.
