Cordoba has a Mediterranean climate of the Csa type in the Köppen climate classification system. It is characterized by extremely hot summers and mild winters, though frosts might occur, generally when strong winds come from the Atlantic, lowering the temperature to -9ºC.

The average temperature in summer is around 28ºC, with a strong thermal sensation that translates into high temperatures between 40 and 45ºC. This makes Cordoba one of the hottest cities in Europe during July and August.

Due to its typography and geographical location, Cordoba is one of the Spanish cities with the greatest number of hours of sunshine, accumulating almost 3,000 a year. This translates into more than 150 sunny days.

Rainfall reaches close to 500 mm annually. Therefore, Cordoba is considered a relatively dry city. Its rainfall occurs in the coldest months due to the Atlantic influence and usually presents an interannual irregularity typical in Mediterranean climates.

The months of greatest precipitation usually occur due to storms coming from the west. These are very common from December until February.

The coldest months are from November to March, when the temperature regularly drops to -8ºC. However, snowfall is infrequent. If it does occur, it is usually in January.
