The Museum of Modernism in Barcelona was inaugurated in 2010 with the specific objectives of exhibiting, promoting and disseminating Catalan modernist art and to be the first museum of its kind dedicated exclusively to Catalan modernism.
The museum occupies an impressive physical area of 1,000 square meters located in a building with a modernist architectural style – the work of the famous architect Enric Sagnier.
Its physical area is made up of two levels where a splendid sample of 350 works is exhibited, including sculptures, paintings, stained glass windows and various furniture by 42 representative artists of Catalan modernism. These include Hermenegildo Anglada Camarasa, Santiago Rusiñol and Ramón Casas.
On the first floor, one can see extraordinary pieces of furniture designed by the brilliant architect and artist Antonio Gaudí, as well as works by designers such as Joan Busquets and Gaspar Homar. The second floor contains pictorial and sculptural works by Josep Mestres Cabanes, Joaquim Mir, Lluís Graner, Josep Llimona, Enric Clarasó and Eusebi Arnau.
Since its inauguration, the Museum of Modernism in Barcelona has become a veritable epicentre of the Catalan art world and a true tourist attraction for both visitors and academics and lovers of fine art.
