Port of San Sebastian

Port of San Sebastian

Following its founding in the 15th century, the Port of San Sebastian became an element of great importance and significance for the city thanks to its strategic geographical location. However, not until the 19th century would it reach its maximum splendour after the demolition of the walls and the subsequent modernization of the city.

Although it has a small triangular-shaped dock, the port is very busy. It has two docks. The first (called "La Jarana" dock) is exclusively for fishing activity, and the second (called "La Lasta" dock) is for sports and recreation.

In addition to its commercial importance, the Port of San Sebastian is a first-class tourist epicentre not only because it receives countless vessels but also because it offers tourist attractions such as the Aquarium and the Royal Club, as well as the spectacular and modern Yacht Club, considered the most important in the Basque Country. Here, visitors can practice canoeing, diving, paddle tennis or surfing.

Another great attraction of the Port of San Sebastian is "La Lonja," a vibrant open-air market where all kinds of fish are auctioned and where anyone who has previously registered can participate in the bidding.

Added to all these great attractions is the fact that the Port of San Sebastian is a central area surrounded by promenades that offer access to bars, restaurants, commercial stores and all kinds of venues.
