The convent, also known as the Monastery of the Franciscan Conception, currently houses a community of cloistered, barefoot Poor Clares. It is located next to the old Puerta del Ángel.
Its construction began in the 16th century and ended in 1627. The building configures a fortified enclosure on its outer perimeter, as it is built on a section of the Wall of Jaen. For its construction, it was necessary to move one of the defensive towers. Due to this architectural particularity, the appearance of the convent is a great combination of architectural beauty and austerity.
Among the artistic treasures housed in the Bernardas Convent, the collection of paintings by Angelo Nardi and a portrait of the bishop of Soria and Vera, who was the founder of the convent, stand out.
