The Arch of Saint Lawrence is the only vestige that remained of the old Church of Saint Lawrence, which was built between the 13th and 14th centuries. It is located at the confluence of Almendros Aguilar Street and Madre de Dios Street. Inside the Arch, you can see tiles and coffered ceilings from the Moorish period. A small chapel is also preserved.
In 1825, due to its state of neglect, the Church of Saint Lawrence collapsed. The only thing that survived was the Arch. At that time, the parish and the archive that was housed in its interior moved to the Church of Saint Bartholomew, while the works of art that were inside were distributed between the churches of Saint Bartholomew and Our Lady of Mercy.
