Olympic Port is a marina located in front of the Barcelona Olympic Village, exactly between the beaches of Nova Icaria and Barceloneta.
It was built in 1991 so that the city would have a port for the sports competitions in the 1992 Olympics. After the Olympic Games were over, its north coast was converted into a recreational and residential area.
The Olympic Port has a rectangular structure with a sheltered water surface of approximately 8 hectares and three dikes that reach a height of 7 meters.
Its southern dike is oriented towards Marina Street, while the north extends towards Pamplona Street. Its last dike goes towards Poblenou. It is 500 meters long and curved to take advantage of the force of the waves.
It is an international port that has a dry dock of 2,900 square meters, with a capacity of more than 740 moorings, and it allows boats from 7 to 30 meters in length. In addition, the Olympic Port has a crane for ships of up to 6 tons and a travel lift for boats of a maximum of 45 tons.
After 1993, the Olympic Port gained notoriety thanks to its spectacular and modern services and facilities, including a weather station, a shopping centre and a gas station for ships. It is one of the greatest tourist attractions on the European Mediterranean coast and also one of the largest recreational and leisure centres in all of Spain.
