The infantry, the strategies and the armed forces of a region that is near the sea and constantly besieged are an enigma for those who decide to enter the city of A Coruña. To dispel all these doubts, and to disseminate history, the Military History Museum was built.

In this noble and energetic site, there is a varied permanent exhibition where the visitor is informed about the experiences and concerns of the armies and thereby develops a more comprehensive and realistic understanding of the past.

Its exhibition foundations date from collections close to the middle of the 19th century onwards. It has modern facilities – inaugurated in 1992 with a background from the 17th to the mid-20th centuries – of different types: fine arts, science and technology, ammunition, souvenirs, weapons, models, documents, uniforms, flags, decorations and furniture.

In addition, various types of entertainment activities – such as historical re-enactments, writing contests, photography and children’s theatre – are carried out as part of an extensive annual program. Likewise, the museum carries out recreational activities related to the exhibits, concerts, temporary exhibitions and military-themed cinema to educate both locals and visitors.

It has convenient hours and admission is free. From Monday to Saturday, it is open and displays a billboard describing the special event that day. On Sundays and special days, it is also open, but with more restricted hours.
